The event brought together representatives from travel and transport companies, hotels, homestays, resorts, cultural sites, and tourist destinations, to discuss ways of integrating digital technologies across all areas of the tourism industry.

Speaking at the workshop, Ha Van Sieu, deputy director of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, highlighted Hanoi’s strong potential to become a national leader in smart tourism.

“Tourism businesses in Hanoi must quickly embrace technology to strengthen their market connection,” said Sieu.

“Digital transformation enables businesses to optimise products, streamline management, and improve service delivery. At the same time, management agencies can leverage technology to enhance their role in tourism oversight, promotion, and development”, Sieu added.

Nguyen Huu Viet, deputy director of the Hanoi Tourism Information and Promotion Centre, noted that the city has already made steady progress by applying digital tools in management, marketing, and operations. Yet, he emphasized that building a full-fledged smart tourism ecosystem demands stronger cross-sector collaboration.

“Smart tourism is not just about using digital tools,” Viet explained. “It requires a change in mindset by placing visitors at the centre and measuring success by their satisfaction. Hanoi’s strategy emphasises modernity, convenience, and safety while preserving and promoting the city’s cultural heritage. Our aim is for every visitor to enjoy a meaningful, memorable experience.”

The workshop also featured a series of thematic seminars covering digital transformation in travel businesses, smart operations in accommodation facilities, and strategies for promoting, managing, and developing smart tourism destinations.
