Giang café becomes more popular since 2nd DPRK-USA Summit

VOV.VN - Giang Café at 39 Nguyen Huu Huan Street, in Hanoi has been more crowded ever since the 2nd DPRK-USA summit was held in Hanoi last month.

Egg coffees were served at the International Media Center during the second DPRK-USA summit in Hanoi in February.

Giang Café is more crowded these days with people enjoying cups of egg coffee. Nguyen Van Dao, Nguyen Van Giang’s son, said: “Many people have visited Giang Café these days. Since CNN ran a story about our coffee, a lot of foreigners have been coming here.”

On a normal day, the café serves about 100 customers. But before, during, and since the summit, more people have flocked to the café. During this period the café has served about 700 cups of coffee per day.

Many people think an egg coffee must taste like eggs. When they try one they are completely amazed.

An egg coffee or an egg coffee with cocoa powder attracts young people with its moderately sweet flavor.

The crowdedness in the small café doesn’t bother its customers. Egg coffee was invented in 1946 by Nguyen Van Giang who worked as a bartender at the five-star Sofitel Legend Metropole hotel. Because condensed milk was scarce at the time, Giang used egg yolk as a substitute and created this special drink.

A hot egg coffee, often served in a dish of hot water to keep it warm, is characterized by its thick texture and creamy taste. Giang Café is one of the oldest coffee shops in Hanoi and has long been a favorite with both locals and visitors.
