Former COVID-19 hotspot Da Nang receives first tourists

VOV.VN - The central city of Da Nang, the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot two months ago, welcomed first holidaymakers on October 4, more than two months after its tourism services were suspended due to the resurgence of the virus.

A plane landed at Da Nang International Airport in the morning, bringing many passengers, including 55 travellers from Hanoi to the central city.

As the first tourists to Da Nang following a two-month suspension of services, they were greeted by local tourism officials. They were given preferences, including a stay at a four-star hotel instead of a three-star hotel booked previously, and a free welcoming party in the evening.

The tourists are scheduled to stay in Da Nang three days and two nights till October 6. They plan to make a tour of major tourist attractions in Da Nang, including Ba Na Hills, Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountains), Linh Ung pagoda, Son Tra peninsula, and My Khe beach.

Mai Thi Thanh Hai, deputy director of the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre, said the local tourism sector is committed to guaranteeing safety for all tourists coming to Da Nang.

The city has brought the virus under control for more than 30 consecutive days, with no new community cases detected, said Hai, adding that all epidemic prevention measures remain in place at tourist destinations to prevent a possible spread of the virus.

Da Nang is a famous tourist destination in central Vietnam. The resurgence of the virus in late July had forced all tourism services in the city to come to a grinding halt. All flights to/from Da Nang had been suspended.

The Ministry of Transport has recently allowed transport companies to resume air, land and waterway services to/from Da Nang. The municipal Tourism Department has worked with tour operators in the city to ensure epidemic prevention measures are implemented effectively.

Currently, 477 local hotels have resumed operations and 11 out of 16 tourist venues have reopened the door for visitors.
