Foreign visitors to HCM City rise in 5 months

Ho Chi Minh City welcomed more than 1.6 million foreign visitors in the first five months of 2013, a year-on-year increase of 7 percent, according to the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The city earned VND24.4 trillion from tourism during the reviewed period, up 15 percent over 2012.

Although the growth rate was not as high as expected, it was seen as a positive sign for the city’s tourism as the country’s tourism sector was facing many difficulties and the number of foreign visitors to the country decreased from the previous year.

However, the department also pointed out that the growth rate in the numbers of foreign visitors tends to go down.

The city is preparing a number of programmes to lure more tourists in the coming months.
