Fish soup named among Top 15 Best Rated Soups in the World

VOV.VN - Vietnamese sweet and sour soup, known locally as “Canh chua cá”, has been listed among the Top 15 Best Rated Soups in the world by Taste Atlas, a website dedicated to discovering fresh ingredients, traditional dishes, and authentic restaurants around the world.

Accordingly, Canh chua cá was ranked 12th in the list.

Taste Atlas said that the term canh chua cá encompasses various fish-based Vietnamese soups that are characterised by their combination of sweet, spicy, and sour flavours.

“The soups are usually made with a tamarind-based broth, and they typically include chunks of pineapple, tomatoes, okra, bean sprouts, or other vegetables,” it noted.

The website revealed that most varieties are prepared using catfish, however some versions include carp, snakehead fish, eels, or salmon.

“These soups are usually topped with cilantro and served with rice on the side,” Taste Atlas stressed.

This is not the first time that Taste Atlas has honoured Vietnamese dishes. Recently, the nation’s unique iced coffee was hailed as one of the best rated coffees in the world. The renowned international food magazine granted Vietnamese iced coffee a total of 4.6 out of 5 stars, equivalent to Ristretto of Italy.

Rounding off the list of TasteAtlas’s Top 15 Best Rated Soups are ukha of Russia, halászlé of Hungary, psarosoupa of Greece, salmon soup, known as Lohikeitto, of Finland, shark fin soup of China, rybí polévka of the Czech Republic, encebollado of Ecuador, zupa rybna of Poland, cullen skink of Scotland, and tekwan of Indonesia.
