The central city of Danang promoted its destination appeal, cultural heritage, and tourism products at the 2026 Vietnam Festival in Kanagawa, held on September 12-13 at Zou-no-hana Park in Yokohama, Japan, aiming to boost ties with the Japanese market and expand cooperation with Kanagawa prefecture.
The festival, organized annually by the Kanagawa prefectural government and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan since 2015, has grown into one of the largest bilateral exchange events in the country. During the two-day event, the delegation from the central Vietnamese city participated in a tourism seminar and operated a pavilion providing travel information on Danang and the ancient town of Hoi An to local residents, visitors, and the Vietnamese community.
Danang-Hoi An cultural heritage
Hoi An was a key focal point through its lantern displays and the staging of the musical "Princess Anio." The city presented a blend of dynamic modernity and historical identity, featuring UNESCO-recognized Bai Choi folk singing and the iconic Covered Bridge, which underscores historical links between Vietnam and Japan.
During the seven-month period of 2026, Danang recorded nearly 12.1 million overnight visitors, including over 6 million international arrivals, with Japanese visitors surpassing 225,000.
Infrastructure and air connectivity
As the central region's key hub, Danang features an international airport ranked among Skytrax's top 100 worldwide, more than 66,000 accommodation rooms, including approximately 30 international brands, and around 160 Japanese-speaking tour guides.
Regarding aviation, Vietnam Airlines operates 11 weekly flights on the Tokyo-Danang route and 5 weekly flights on the Osaka-Danang route. Vietjet Air plans to launch an additional 4 weekly flights on the Danang-Osaka route starting in December 2026.
Moving forward, Danang aims to solidify Japan as a core market by intensifying promotional campaigns, organizing famtrips and press trips, and partnering with Japanese travel operators, airlines, and online travel platforms to enhance visitor exchanges.
