Danang seminar seeks ways to boost tourism
(VOV) - The Danang municipal People’s Committee in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on October 25 sponsored a seminar focusing on transforming the city into a leading international tourism centre.
At the seminar, leading domestic and international experts provided city leaders with more options, investment solutions and tourism ideas in hopes of making the dream a reality.
The city needs to meet all the needs of tourists from the relatively inexpensive simple housing to high-class hotels like the Bulgari, Ritz Carlton or Aman, said Robert Day, senior director of planning and landscape of the US WATG Group.
Dr Tran Du Lich said the city’s tourism industry is suffering from lack of an overall strategy for development, which is necessary if the city is to compete on a global level.
The competitiveness capacity of Danang is not sufficiently high, moreover, it is facing stiff competition of famous tourism spots in the region and the world.
Many tourists only transit through Danang city to fly to Hue, Hoi An or Nha Trang as they don’t choose Danang as a tourism spot, Lich noted.
He pointed out weakness in the city’s tourism industry, which included a lack of special products, entertainment areas and poor-quality of advertising.
Domestic and foreign experts also lectured on issues such as upgrading tourism infrastructure, medical facilities and recreational services.
