Cruise ship AIDAstella brings over 2,000 foreign tourists to Phu Quoc

VOV.VN - Italian cruise ship AIDAstella docked at Duong Dong Port in Phu Quoc City, south Vietnam, on December 18, bringing more than 2,000 visitors to the island locality, one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the country.

About 60% of the passengers are from Europe and the remainder from China and Hong Kong, according to local officials.

After docking at the port, the passengers embark on a day-long exploration of Phu Quoc’s iconic attractions, including Phu Quoc Safari, Grand World Phu Quoc, Thom island by cable cars, and Kiss Bridge. They plan to tour local markets to explore specialty gifts and delicacies.

The tourists are scheduled to return to the ship in the afternoon to continue their journey.

Tran Minh Khoa, head of the Phu Quoc City administration, says the island, a world-renowned tourist destination, is expected to welcome nearly six million visitors in 2024, including almost one million foreign arrivals.

To receive tourists from high-end markets, he reveals, the city is accelerating infrastructure development and improving environmental sanitation. The Duong Dong International Passenger Port, set to be inaugurated by mid-2025, is a significant upgrade to welcome more cruise ship tourists.

In addition, the city is planning to develop a second runway at Phu Quoc International Airport, enabling the island to handle a larger volume of international flights.
