Bamboo Airways launches Ho Chi Minh City - Sydney air route

VOV.VN - Vietnamese budget airline Bamboo Airways officially launched a direct air route on February 28 linking the southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney (Australia).

The latest air service is expected to directly meet increasing demands for air travel as well as to boost business and cultural exchanges between the two cities.

Notably Bamboo Airways has become the first new foreign airline to launch an air route at Sydney Airport after Australia announced the reopening of its international borders.

It plans to operate two flights on Tuesdays and Fridays, starting from March 29, and will later increase its weekly flight frequency to four depending on the actual demand. The air route will shorten the travel time between the two cities to only eight hours, saving more than seven hours compared to previous transit flights.

The same day also saw Bamboo Airways sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to co-operate in launching direct flights between Sydney and Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City.

Under the MoU, both sides are fully committed to ensuring the efficient operation of Bamboo Airways' direct flight to Sydney, whilst jointly promoting other marketing activities which aim to elevate cultural heritages and historical sites of both countries.

Geoff Culbert, CEO of Sydney Airport, expressed his pleasure at having the chance to co-operate with a new airline like Bamboo Airways immediately after Australia announced the decision to reopen its borders to international tourists.

He emphasised the necessity of strengthening linkages between the two cities, noting Vietnam is an extremely popular destination among Australian tourists and one of the most ideal places in Asia thanks to its tourism incentive policies.

For his part, Dang Tat Thang, CEO of Bamboo Airways, expressed his hope that the carrier will bring a five-star standard flight experience to Australian tourists, as well as to the large Vietnamese community in Sydney, thereby meeting the rising market demand in the post-pandemic period.

The Bamboo Airways representative revealed that the airline will actively co-operate with Sydney Airport as it aims to fully tap into the regular commercial flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Sydney, and at the same time to further accelerate the partnership with Australia's busiest airport.

Bamboo Airways successfully operated the first direct flights between Vietnam and Australia on February 19 – 20, directly connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Melbourne.
