Airports resume operations after Typhoon Kajiki sweeps through

VOV.VN - Dong Hoi Airport (Quang Tri) and Tho Xuan Airport (Thanh Hoa) have resumed receiving flights after Typhoon Kajiki moved past central Vietnam.

Both airports reported safe operations with no casualties or infrastructure damage, said the Ministry of Construction in its update on August 26.

Earlier, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) had ordered the suspension of operations at the two airports for several hours on August 25, before and during Kajiki’s landfall.

At Vinh Airport (Nghe An), some trees and a section of fencing were blown down, but construction sites had already implemented storm-prevention measures to ensure safety.

Meanwhile, heavy rain and strong winds disrupted several domestic airlines’ schedules. A representative of Vietnam Airlines said that heavy rain on the morning of August 26 affected flights to and from Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports, leading to delays and knock-on impacts throughout the day.

Bamboo Airways also reported that storm circulation brought moderate to heavy rain, likely to continue affecting airports in Hai Phong and Hanoi.

According to the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), Typhoon Kajiki forced 225 flights to alter their routes on August 23, followed by 170 rerouted flights, 35 cancellations, and five diversions to alternate airports on August 24.
