A Cuban taste in Saigon

Diners who plan to find a place featuring Cuban culture in HCMC should head to Cuba La Casa del Mojito restaurant on the busy Pasteur Street in District 1.

Upon arrival at the restaurant, guests can hear exciting twist music and see a picture of Che Guevara, a hero from Argentina who was attached to the revolution for national liberation in Cuba and a symbol of courage, passion, enthusiasm and fearlessness.

Guests will be invited to enjoy a cocktail with a cool flavor plus some mint and fresh lemon. Especially, people can find Mojito, Cuba’s signature cocktail served in nine different kinds at the restaurant.

Guests can order a glass of Mojito at VND110,000 and other Cuban cocktails.

According to Charles Lecomte, the restaurant’s manager, Cuban chef Alex has built up the whole menu for the restaurant by adapting a little bit to the products he could find here in Vietnam.

The first must-try Cuban specialty is paella Habana (VND150,000), a colorful dish which is slightly pasty rice cooked with clams, squid and shrimp.

The next dish is Ropa Vieja beef dish, which includes shredded beef cooked with tomato sauce. Ropa Vieja in Spanish means “old clothes” as after the beef is cooked, it is shredded by hand, thus making it look like old clothing.

The whole Cuban experience also goes with dancing. That’s why the restaurant has free salsa and bachata classes followed by a Latin DJ every Monday and Thursday starting at 9 p.m.

The restaurant has live music performances three times a week (Wednesday, Friday and Saturday) played by Cuban bands or Latin bands depending on the day.

Cuba La Casa del Mojito is located at 91 Pasteur Street, District 1, HCM City. It is open daily from 3 p.m. till 2 a.m.
