Vinamilk CEO receives Nikkei Asia Prize

(VOV) - Mai Kieu Lien, VinamilkChairwoman and CEO has been honoured with one of this year’s three Nikkei Asia Prizes at an awards ceremony held on May 20 in Tokyo at the Imperial Hotel. 

Awarded annually, the prizes recognize outstanding achievement that contributes to the creation of a better future for the whole of Asia.

Ms Lien has been the driving force behind Vinamilk’s successful expansion into Cambodia, Europe and the Middle East, and was awarded the prize in the economic and business innovation category.

"We are motivated and determined to becoming Vietnam's number one symbol of nutritional and healthy products both at home and abroad,” said Lien in her acceptance speech at the awards ceremony.

Lien revealed that she would donate the US$24,816 prize money to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to provide relief for children in Nepal following the recent major earthquakes.

''It is my personal desire as well as Vinamilk's business culture to do our best for a better future for children in Vietnam and around the globe," she said

Wang Yifang, director of the Institute of High Energy Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences was awarded the prize in the category of science, technology and environment

Meanwhile the Asian Youth Orchestra was chosen the winner in the culture and community category.

Nikkei Inc. established the awards in 1996 in celebration of its 120th anniversary. It publishes Japan's leading business newspaper, The Nikkei, and also operates online news services in Japanese, English, and Chinese, publishes books, and compiles Japan's most widely-studied stock index.
