Vietnam world’s second largest footwear exporter

VOV.VN - Vietnam has earned more than US$2.8 billion from footwear exports so far this year. The product has always been listed among goods with an export value of billions of US dollars for many years.

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs’ calculations based on data of the United Nations International Trade Statistics Database (UN Comtrade), Vietnam’s footwear exports came second in the world, after China, in 2015 and 2016.

The World Footwear Magazine reported that last year Vietnam further maintained the second position among top ten footwear exporters in the world, behind China, with 1.02 billion pairs of shoes out of more than 27 billion pairs in the world, accounting for 7.4% of the global shares.

Vietnam’s footwear export value has steadily increased from US$8.4 billion in 2013 to US$10.3 billion in 2014, US$12 billion in 2015, US$13 billion in 2016 and US$14.6 billion in 2017.

In terms of markets, the US has been the largest importer of Vietnamese footwear for many years, making up more than one-third of Vietnam’s total footwear export value and 11% of the country’s total exports to the market.

The market imported more than US$5,113 million of Vietnamese footwear products last year. China ranked second among importers with more than US$1,140 million, trailed by Belgium with US$907.5 million, Germany (US$992.6 million) and Japan (US$751 million).

Vietnamese footwear products are now sold in more than 100 markets in the world.
