Vietnam appreciates IMF’s assistance
Finance Minister Dinh Tien Dung has spoken highly of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s support for Vietnam in assessing the country’s macro-economy.
The fund’s technical support, particularly in budget and tax management, policy reform and personnel training, has helped the Vietnamese Government as well as the ministry to manage fiscal and monetary policies flexibly, thus stabilising the macro-economy, he said.
IMF chief Christine Lagarde suggested solutions to strengthen fiscal policy and spur growth.
The country should try to increase its income and improve the efficient use of capital, thus ensuring the sustainability of public debt, she recommended.
The IMF always stands ready to coordinate and provide technical aid for the Vietnamese finance ministry, she said, expressing her belief that the cooperation will help Vietnam fulfill its socio-economic development targets.
