The Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang earned US$220 million in exports in January, a rise of 9.2% year on year, according to Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade Ngo Van Tuan.

Tuan noted that in the month, Tien Giang shipped abroad 30,000 tonnes of rice for US$14 million, five times higher than that in the same period last year in both volume and value.

Exports of domestically-invested enterprises accounted for 36% of total figure, while that of the foreign-invested sector was 64%.

Tuan held that strong rise in the first month of this year showed the effectiveness of the locality’s policy in export and investment attraction as well as the efforts of local firms.

He revealed that this year, the province aims for export revenues of US$2.65 billion, up 6% compared to 2017.
