Sudan’s businesses promote trade in HCM City
(VOV) - Bilateral trade value between Vietnam and Sudan has been stable and reached more than US$20 million annually since 2008 despites socio-economic fluctuations in the region and the world.
Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) branch in HCM City Nguyen The Hung made the statement at a trade workshop in the city on February 11.
According to VCCI, two-way trade turnover hit US$32 million in 2014, a year-on-year increase of 65%.
Vietnam mainly imports waste materials, steel, and iron from Sudan while exports garment, rice and seafood to the country.
Currently, the two countries are making every effort to establish a direct banking channel and accelerate negotiations on the signing of agreements on important issues such as double taxation avoidance, investment encouragement and promotion, and visa exemption for diplomatic passport holders.

Head of the Sudanese business delegation, Hesham Khalil Mohamed Fadlelmula said the businesses visiting Vietnam this time to seek cooperative opportunities are operating in the fields of solar energy, light, waste water treatment, farming equipment and interior facilities.
Sudan has abundant natural resources with enormous reserves of minerals like gold, bronze, nickel, and oil. It hopes to attract more investment from Vietnamese businesses in these fields, said Hesham.
For his part, Hung proposed that Sudan create the best possible conditions for Vietnamese businesses like PetroVietnam and Viettel to invest in the country.
The two countries have effectively carried out a project on rice production and development of other crops in Sudan in the 2009-2015 period. Vietnam is fully prepared to implement the second phase of the project, Hung confirmed.
