Local businesses seek investment opportunities in Cuba

(VOV) - On May 25, representatives from 12 Vietnam businesses in the fields of hotels, technology, mechanics, trade, wood, rubber, stock market and IT, sought investment opportunities at a business forum held in Havana.

Addressing the forum, Nguyen Vu Kien, deputy head of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce (VCCI)’s International Relations Department, reviewed fine development in bilateral relations between Vietnam and Cuba and emphasised that trade and investment cooperation has not been on par with fine political relations, and the two countries’ mutual potential.

Kien encouraged Vietnam businesses to seek new cooperative ties with Cuba as the country is implementing a new economic model and accelerating international economic integration.

Celia Labora Rodriguez, head of the Cuba Chamber of Commerce’s International Relations Department, echoed Kien’s view and introduced Cuba’s investment environment and opportunities, new policies to attract foreign investment, business procedures and a strategic project to develop the Mariel Special Economic Zone.

She answered all Vietnamese businesses’ questions on Cuban investment incentives and specific products like tyre, and of course, cigars.

According to unofficial statistics, two-way trade between Vietnam and Cuba reached nearly US$208 million in 2014, of which Vietnam’s exports were US$206 million.
