Hanoi hosts concrete sustainability conference

VOV.VN - Deputy Minister Nguyen Quang Hung of the Ministry of Construction delivered the keynote address at a conference in Hanoi on October 31 discussing solutions for achieving a sustainable concrete manufacturing, design and construction industry.

An estimated 400 researchers, academics, students, engineers, architects, contractors, concrete producers, public works officials, material suppliers and concrete industry professionals from more than 250 organizations worldwide attended the event.

The event, said Deputy Minister Hung, was aimed at providing those in attendance an update on the latest technical knowledge along with updates on continuing research and solutions for achieving sustainability.

It’s vitally important to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete and to implement ‘green concrete’, he said, as well as equip the industry with the latest in technological equipment to be competitive and achieve long-term viability.

Professor Han Manyop, president of the Asian Concrete Federation in turn emphasized the event offered an opportunity for participants to keep abreast of the latest products, technologies, services and solutions, which is critically important for Vietnam to become competitive globally.

Also, speaking at the event, Dr Le Trung Thanh, director general the Department of Science, Technology and Environment affirmed the importance for actors in the industry to be proactive and innovative to be competitive and achieve sustainability.
