Hanoi, China pledge to expand agricultural trade
(VOV) - At a joint meeting on November 24, leaders from Hanoi and China agreed they would meet more regularly and work toward greater trade ties, particularly geared towards stimulating agricultural commerce.
“The Hanoi Promotion Agency has plans in the works to beef up participation in agri-business fairs and ramp up advertising and marketing campaigns in China,” revealed Truong Viet Dung, the agency’s deputy director, at the dialogue.
Dung said the meeting carried significance because it restores a system of cooperation among Hanoi and China, which in turn is important for peace and prosperity in the whole of Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
At the meeting in Hanoi, the leaders also pledged to stay committed to opening up talks for broadened trade and investment in other fields and to hold more dialogues to timely keep each other informed on matters of importance.
A representative from the China Food and Agricultural Products Association suggested a balanced approach to trade, saying that the two nation’s agricultural commodities tended to complement each other.
He said Chinese farmers export significant quantities of apples, mandarin oranges, grapes and garlic to Hanoi and Vietnam in general while they import large quantities of longans, lychees, bananas and rice.
President Le Ba Lich of the Vietnam Animal Feed Association in turn agreed with the Chinese leader, saying the two neighbours need to rely on one another for badly needed prosperity and growth in agriculture.
“In the integration process, the two nations can also work cooperatively to advance the mechanization of the industry and improve overall quality to be more competitive within the ASEAN region and beyond,” Lich underscored.
