FPT signs contract with two Japanese printing companies

Vietnam's software giant FPT signed contracts with Toppan Printing Company Limited and Tokyo Shoseki Company Limited, two established companies in the field of printing and education in Japan.

The signing ceremony was held last week during the Vietnam–Japan High-level Economic Dialogue held in Nagoya City, in Japan's Aichi Prefecture from May 20 to May 28.

Under the agreement, FPT and Toppan Printing will outsource software and expand their business performance in Southeast Asia. Specifically, FPT will process software outsourcing for Toppan Printing and both sides will carry out business performances in the Southeast Asia. Under this agreement, FPT will also have more opportunities to bag contracts from Toppan Printing, especially in the field of business process outsourcing (BPO), which is facing strong competition from companies in China and the Philippines.

On the same day, FPT also signed a co-operative agreement with Tokyo Shoseki for digital textbooks in the Japanese and Vietnamese markets. This year, the Japanese Ministry of Education will approve a plan to computerise all textbooks for primary and secondary level in 2020. This agreement will open huge opportunities for FPT to receive contracts related to computerised projects for Japanese textbooks in the future.

These two are one of the areas that FPT is making an effort to boost in the Japanese market. Currently, companies providing BPO services in the Japanese market mainly come from China and the Philippines.

In recent years, the Japanese market has become the most important software importer of FPT with a revenue of up to 50 percent of FPT's total revenue from the overseas markets. By the end of the first quarter this year, FPT's revenue from the Japanese market reached its highest growth rate in recent years with an increase of 59 percent, as compared to the same period last year.

Currently, FPT‘s 4,500 IT engineers are working for projects in partnership with Japanese companies. Between, 2005 and 2015, revenues from the Japanese market registered an average growth of 32% per year.

FPT expects that in 2017, the Japanese market will bring it a revenue of US$200 million and create 8,800 jobs both in Japan and Vietnam.
