Food safety conference convenes in HCM City
VOV.VN - A conference was convened in Ho Chi Minh City on February 22 aiming to raise the business community’s awareness on the importance of improving their compliance with food safety and hygiene export requirements.
At the event attended by more than 65 business leaders along with numerous representatives of the government and academia, speakers dilated on the importance of food scientists and the business community working together to resolve food safety issues.
In order for Vietnamese local businesses to capitalize on the benefits of free trade agreements such as the recently negotiated Vietnam-EU trade deal, strict compliance with EU food safety guidelines is mandatory, speakers at the event cautioned.
Businesses must keep accurate profiles and documents related to production and meet the traceability requirements as outlined by EU regulations related to food safety or risk losing the preferences the accord provides, they added.
There was also considerable discussion related to recent complaints pertaining to food safety issues related to rice shipments to Africa that were rejected due to safety concerns.
Pham Hoang Lam, CEO of Hung Lam rice export JSC in An Giang province, was asked to assist in rectifying the problems and to insure that all future shipments fully comply with food safety requirements.
He was also urged to contact the trade counselor and locate business partners in Africa, who have strong financial and infrastructure capacity, in order to minimize food safety risks for rice exports that might arise from dealing with inferior business associates.
