Fish and seafood exports jump 4.3%

VOV.VN - Farm raised and wild caught fish and seafood exports for the nine months leading up to October of 2016 jumped 4.3% year-on-year to US$4.93 billion, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

The US, Japan, China and the Republic of Korea were the four largest export markets for the nine-month period, accounting for 53.7% of the total export value.  Markets with high growth were China (up 55.2%), the US (14.3%), the Netherlands (12.3%) and Thailand (10.8%).

Businesses in Vietnam also imported US$770 million of fish and seafood for the nine-month period, down 7.2% over the same period last year.

Despite a number of difficulties and challenges hitting the Mekong Delta region, in particular, very hard, said MARD, farm raised fish and seafood of the region managed to hit US$4.9 million metric tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.2%.
