Car imports rise 56% over last year

(VOV) - Vietnam spent US$208 million on importing 9,504 completely built-up (CBU) cars in July, an increase of 56% in quantity and 51% in value compared to the same month last year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Last month, the Republic of Korea (RoK) was the biggest exporter to Vietnam with 2,317 units, equal to US$52 million. It was followed by Thailand (1,988 units, US$26 million), India (1,875 units, US$8 million), and China (1,262 units, US$48 million).

In the first seven months of this year, Vietnam imported 64,421 CBU cars worth total US$1.708 billion, up 105% in quantity and 152% in value against the same period last year.

China is the leading car exporter to Vietnam in the reviewed period. It sold 18,008 units with a total revenue of US$696 million.

The RoK was second with 14,224 cars worth US$353 million.
