2016 Vietnam Economist Annual Meeting opens in Danang

The 2016 Vietnam Economist Annual Meeting (VEAM) opened in the central city of Da Nang on August 11, attracting economists, financial scholars and business executives from around the world.

Four major studies by famous economists such as Prof. Markus Brueckner from the Australian National University, Prof. Duc-Tho Nguyen from Griffith University, Prof. Makoto Tawada from Aichi Gakuin University and Prof. Wei Zhou from the Paris School of Business will be delivered at four plenary sessions.

The meeting will also feature 25 thematic discussions on more than 95 reports by scholars from Vietnam and 20 countries worldwide.

Prof. Le Van Cuong is due to make a speech on how to improve the quality of teaching economics at Vietnamese universities.

Prof. Nguyen Duc Khuong, Dean of Economics and Finance from the Paris School of Management, who was recently ranked seventh among 200 outstanding young economists globally by the Research Papers in Economics (RePEc) project, will share his experience in finance and banking.

Vice Rector of the Danang University of Economics (DUE) Vo Thi Thuy Anh, said the DUE is looking to become a research-oriented university with an advanced learning environment, to contribute to local socio-economic challenges.

The two-day event, co-hosted by the DUE, the Development and Policies Research Centre, the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), the University of Foreign Trade and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, is scheduled to put forward new ideas and orientations for future business development.
