However, caution should still be exercised in preventing the disease, according to Tran Dac Phu, former Director of the Preventive Medicine Department under the Ministry of Health.

VOV.VN- Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) is not a new virus and has previously been identified as a cause of respiratory infections in children in Ho Chi Minh City, according to Dr. Truong Huu Khanh, former head of the Department of Infection – Neurology at the Children's Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam's health authorities said on January 5 they are closely monitoring the situation regarding the new outbreak of virus-induced pneumonia in humans in China.
