VOV.VN - With airfares for domestic tours staying high, many Vietnamese tourists have shown a preference for outbound tours during the coming five-day holiday to mark National Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day (May 1), according to travel agents and tour operators.

A sudden surge in the number of overseas Vietnamese booking domestic tours and the recovery of international arrivals right since the start of 2024 are among positive signs promising a breakthrough year for the tourism industry.

Senior tourism is described as a potential market segment in Vietnam, especially for domestic tours.

The tourism industry has never before fallen into such a difficult situation. Many travel firms have had to shut down, while tour guides have had to take temporary jobs while waiting for opportunities to return.

With the third outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic under control, the demand for domestic tours during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday is expected to rise in the next few weeks, according to travel agencies.
