Young weightlifters to vie for Asian medals in India

VOV.VN - Vietnamese athletes departed for India on July 26 as they head to compete in the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2023 which will be held from July 28 to August 5.

Two local athletes who have high hopes of winning medals are Tran Minh Tri competing in the men's 67kg category and K’Duong in the men's 55kg class.

Minh Tri was the champion of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) in the men’s 67kg category after recording a total lift of 306kg.

Furthermore, SEA Games 32 held in Cambodia this year also saw K’Duong bag a gold medal after lifting 114kg in the snatch, 144kg in the clean and jerk, and recording a total lift of 258kg in the men's 55kg class.

The Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2023 is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India, from July 28 to August 5, with the event attracting the participation of around 200 weightlifters from across the world.

Vietnam will send a total of 19 athletes to the event, with the tournament being an important warm-up event for Vietnamese athletes ahead of the world championships in the future.
