Yen, Trang win Chinese chess tournament

Nguyen Hoang Yen of HCM City won the title in the women’s standard category of the National Chinese Chess Championships in Vung Tau City on February 21.

Yen, who has Elo rating of 2415, gained seven points after eight matches. 

At the same event held last year, Yen had won three titles in the standard, rapid and blitz event.

Meanwhile Dang Huu Trang of Binh Phuoc also triumphed in the men’s standard event.

Trang, who has Elo rating of 2275, took the title for the first time with 8.5 points after 10 rounds.

Trang beat many veterans such as Trenh A Sang of HCM City, defending champion Lai Ly Huynh of Binh Duong and Nguyen Tran Do Ninh of HCM City to take the title.

Chess players will continue to compete in the rapid and blitz division from February 24 to February 26.
