Yen Nhu wins first medal for Vietnam at Asian Judo Championships 2025

VOV.VN - Vietnamese judoka Ta Yen Nhu from Ho Chi Minh City on September 11 secured the first medal for the Vietnamese judo team at the Asian Cadet & Junior Judo Championships 2025 in Indonesia.

Competing in the girls’ 52kg youth category, Nhu defeated Cheng Yun Ya of Chinese Taipei in the first round, before losing to Maratbek of Uzbekistan in the second. She then entered the repechage round for the bronze medal, where she beat Chaudhari of India to claim the bronze, the first for Vietnam at the Asian tournament.

Yen Nhu is currently considered one of the most promising young judokas in Vietnam and a top athlete in Ho Chi Minh City sports.

Earlier, male judoka Hieu Nghia competed in the 50kg youth category, finishing 7th overall, while Tu Trinh placed 5th in the girls’ 48kg category.

The Asian tournament began on September 11 and it will last through to September 14. A total of 200 judo fighters from 21 countries and territories worldwide are vying for both cadet and junior divisions.

The regional championship is a good chance for Vietnamese judo fighters to sharpen their skills and to prepare for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 33) in Thailand later this year.
