Women’s national football team to receive bonus from FIFA

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese women’s national football team will be given a bonus of US$750,000, equal to VND17 billion, from FIFA after earning a place at the 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time.

The team created history for women's football in the nation as they battled to overcome Taipei (China) in a 2-1 win in a playoff match held on February 6 as part of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in India.

They also stunned Thailand 2-0 in another playoff match which took place on February 2 in India.

According to FIFA’s regulations, each team will receive a bonus in the event that they win a place at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, with the international competition set to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The winners who enter the Round of 16 will also be awarded US$1 million, equal to VND22.6 billion.

FIFA has also pledged to more than double the total prize money for the 2023 tournament, increasing to US$60 million, with the number of teams also rising from 26 to 32.

Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) also presented VND5.5 billion to the team, while businesses also rewarded the team with VND4 billion.
