Weightlifter Van The to vie for Asian Youth Games 2025 medal
Hung Van The, who won three gold medals at the 2025 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships, will represent Vietnam at the Asian Youth Games (AYG) this year.

According to the Vietnamese coaching staff, Van The is maintaining strong form in training and is ready for the continental competition. In July, he was the standout performer for Vietnam at the Asian Youth Championships in Kazakhstan, winning the men’s 56kg category with lifts of 105kg in snatch, 137kg in clean and jerk, and a 242kg total.
Coach Luu Van Thang described Van The as Vietnam’s brightest medal hope in weightlifting at AYG 2025.
Apart from Hung Van The, Vietnam has also sent Nguyen Thanh Duy, Dao Thi Yen and Y Lien to the tournament. All of them competed in the 2025 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships in July this year.
The 2025 AYG’s weightlifting competition will be held in Bahrain from October 26 to 30.
The Asian Weightlifting Federation said that AYG 2025 is expected to attract 170 athletes from 26 countries and territories worldwide. There will be 32 sets of medals for both men and women in different categories.
Young athletes from Uzbekistan, China, Iran, Thailand, and Kazakhstan are considered strong contestants in the tournament.
Previously, Vietnamese weightlifter Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan won a silver medal in the men's 56kg category at the 2013 Asian Youth Games.
