Weightlifter Hong Thanh wins three golds at Asian tournament
VOV.VN - Pham Thi Hong Thanh, champion at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 31, secured three gold medals on October 11 at the 2022 Asian Weightlifting Championships held in Bahrain.
The Hai Duong native put in an impressive performance in the women’s 64kg category.
She took home a gold medal in the snatch event after lifting 100kg, followed by silver medalist Chontavin Thipwara of Thailand with 91kg, and bronze medalist Sarah Sarah of Indonesia with 89 kg.
She recorded a second consecutive win in the clean and jerk event by successfully lifting 117kg, with Sarah Sarah and Chontavin Thipwara earning silver and bronze with lifts of 112kg and 110kg, respectively.
The 23-year-old local weightlifter made it a hat trick of golds for a combined lift of 217kg in the women’s 64kg category on October 11, which was 16kg greater than Thai rival Chontavin Thipwara in second.
However, this is not Thanh’s best result as she previously lifted 104kg in the snatch, 126kg in the clean and jerk, and 230kg in total at the 31st SEA Games held in Vietnam in May.
So far Vietnamese athletes have successfully brought home a total of nine gold medals at the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2022.
Gold medals have been won by Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan in the clean and jerk of the men’s 61kg weight category and Lai Gia Thanh in the snatch in the men’s 55kg, Khong My Phuong in the snatch of the women’s 45kg, and Quach Thi Tam in the snatch of the women’s 59kg.
The 2022 Asian Weightlifting Championships is currently underway in Manama Bahrain from October 6 to October 16.
