VPBank Hanoi Marathon records largest number of runners in history

VOV.VN - The VPBank Hanoi Marathon 2022 has seen a record number of runners register, with 3,000 signing up for the 42.195 km Full Marathon category.

The international race is scheduled to take place in Hanoi on October 16, drawing the participation of more than 10,000 athletes, including 1,000 international athletes.

Alongside the full marathon, runners will compete in the 5km, 10km and 21km categories.

This year marks the first time that participants will start at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square before reaching the Vietnam Electricity (EVN)’s branch in Hoan Kiem district as the final destination.

Racers in the Full Marathon category won’t run across Long Bien Bridge as in previous years. Instead they will pass five famous lakes in the capital, including Ho Hoan Kiem (Returned Sword lake), Bay Mau lake, Ba Mau lake, West lake, and Truc Bach lake, as well as passing major landmarks such as President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ba Dinh Square, and the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long.

The VPBank Hanoi Marathon hosted by VPBank and DHA Vietnam was first held in 2018. Last year saw the annual event cancelled due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
