VOV.VN - The Vietnamese tennis team have been promoted to the World Group II play-offs in 2023 after enjoying a resounding 3-0 win over Syria in the 2022 Davis Cup Group III in the Asia/Oceania region.

The 2022 Davis Cup Group III in the Asia/Oceania region took place in Tay Ninh (Vietnam) from August 10 – 13. As hosts, Vietnam (in 69th globally) took on Syria (#80), Jordan (#93), and Malaysia (#95) in Pool A.

In the first two matches of Pool A, Vietnam trounced Jordan and Malaysia, giving them plenty of confidence ahead of their clash with the Syrian rivals.

In the men’s singles, Pham Minh Tuan laboured to a 2-1 win over Yacoub Makzoume after two hours 24 minutes, while Tuan’s team mate Nguyen Van Phuong gained an easy 2-0 victory over Rabee Sleem.

In the men’s doubles Le Quoc Khanh and Trinh Linh Giang were able to see off Majdi Salim and Rabee Sleem with a 2-0 victory.

Topping Pool A, Vietnam will be promoted to the World Group II play-offs in 2023.

The World Group II play-offs are scheduled to take place in March next year.

Vietnam triumphed in the Asia/Oceania Group III in 2019, although they missed out on a place in World Group II after losing 4-0 to Morocco in the play-offs in 2020.
