Viettel FC to play key AFC Cup 2022 knock-out games in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Vietnamese side Viettel FC are due to face Kuala Lumpur City of Malaysia at Ho Chi Minh City’s Thong Nhat Stadium on August 10 in the AFC Cup 2022 semi-finals of the Southeast Asian region, according to a draw held by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on July 14.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the AFC Cup 2022’s knock-out stage will have only one leg, meaning that teams which play in their home country have the advantage and are more likely to progress to the next round.
In the event that the 2020 V.League 1 champions beat Kuala Lumpur City, they will also play at home on August 24 against the winner of another semi-final match between Malaysia’s Kedah Darul Aman and Indonesia’s PSM Makassar.
If they continue to win, the Vietnamese club will play ATK Mohun Bagan FC in India on September 7 to compete for a place in the inter-regional’s final round.
If they seal a victory again, it is possible that Viettel FC would take on Eastern FC of Hong Kong (China) or a central Asian team on October 5 at an away ground.
The Hanoi-based club may then return to the capital to compete against a western Asian team on October 22 in the final match of the AFC Cup 2022.
