Vietnamese referees vie for berth at 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup
VOV.VN - Local referees Cong Thi Dung and Truong Thi Le Trinh have been selected to officiate matches at the upcoming 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) made the announcement on January 5 to name a total of 36 referees and assistant referees who will take charge of the continental tournament.
According to the statement, Cong Thi Dung is on the list of reserve referees and Truong Thi Le Trinh is on the list of official assistant referees or lineswomen.
The AFC has also invited six more male referees to participate as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) management. VAR will be making its first appearance at the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup from the quarter-final stage.
The Republic of Korea will have the most referees in VAR management during the regional tournament this year, with three referees and two assistant referees.
The 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup is set to get underway in India from January 20 to February 6, with the best five teams joining Australia to compete at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
The Vietnamese national women’s football team is in Group C where they will play the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Myanmar on January 21, January 24, and January 27, respectively.
