Vietnamese player finishes runner-up at International Xiangqi Masters Tournament

VOV.VN - Vietnamese player Nguyen Thanh Bao claimed the silver medal at the International Xiangqi Masters Tournament – 7th Phuong Trang Cup, which concluded at Da Nang Times Square on December 28.

In the final, Nguyen Thanh Bao faced Xu Wen Zhang of China. The standard game ended in a draw, sending the match into a rapid playoff, where Xu Wen Zhang prevailed to secure the gold medal.

Earlier, in the third-place playoff, Hua Chen Hao of China defeated compatriot Wang Jia Rui 1-0 to take the bronze.

The tournament featured a total prize pool of US$56,200, with US$25,000 awarded to the champion. The runner-up received US$11,000, while the third- and fourth-placed finishers earned US$7,000 and US$3,000, respectively.

This year’s edition marked a step forward in both scale and quality, attracting 30 top players from Vietnam and overseas, including 11 international masters from leading xiangqi nations such as China, Malaysia and Singapore, alongside 19 of Vietnam’s strongest players.
