30 Top Asian players compete at int'l Xiangqi masters tournament

The International Xiangqi Masters Tournament – 7th Phuong Trang Cup officially opened on December 22 at FUTA Residence – Da Nang Times Square in the central city of Da Nang, attracting the participation of many of Asia’s leading xiangqi players.

Founded and sponsored by Phuong Trang – FUTA Group, the tournament has established itself as a prestigious xiangqi competition with high professional standards and an increasingly expanding scale.

Now in its seventh edition in 2025, the tournament continues to pursue sustainable development, professionalism and transparency in organisation and competition, while reflecting the business sector’s commitment to supporting cultural and sporting activities, particularly mind sports.

This year’s tournament marks a significant step forward in both scale and quality, featuring 30 top players from Vietnam and abroad, including 11 international masters from major xiangqi nations such as China, Malaysia and Singapore, alongside 19 leading players of Vietnam.

With a total prize pool of US$30,000 and a professional competition format, the tournament is expected to be a high-level contest showcasing tactical excellence and intellectual mastery.

Lim Kwan How, Secretary-General of the Asian Xiangqi Federation, said the tournament brings together many of Asia’s top players, contributing to the promotion and development of xiangqi across the region.

Nguyen Trong Thao, Deputy Director of Da Nang’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and head of the tournament's Organising Committee, noted that the tournament creates a highlight for intellectual sports activities, in line with the city’s cultural and tourism development orientation.

On this occasion, Kim Long Motor Hue Joint Stock Company, a member of FUTA Group, joined as a co-sponsor and added US$22,000 to the event prizes, further enhancing the tournament’s professional quality and encouraging strong competition among players.
