Vietnamese female weightlifter adds two more medals at 2025 Asian Youth Games
VOV.VN - Vietnamese weightlifter Y Lien earned one silver and one bronze medal for Vietnam at the 2025 Asian Youth Games held in Bahrain on October 28.
Competing in the women’s 53kg category, Y Lien continued Vietnam’s strong performance in weightlifting. At this year’s Games, medals are awarded separately for the snatch and clean and jerk events, giving athletes more medal opportunities.
Born in 2008, Y Lien entered the competition with confidence following her strong results at this year’s Asian and world youth championships. Despite missing her first attempt at 78kg in the snatch, she succeeded in the next two lifts, finishing with 82kg to claim the bronze medal.
In the clean and jerk, the Vietnamese lifter and her coaches registered the highest starting weight among competitors at 106kg. Although she failed on her first two attempts, Y Lien successfully lifted 106kg on her final try to secure the silver medal, behind Pak Hae Yon of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, who won gold with 107kg.
With Y Lien’s two medals, Vietnam’s weightlifting team wrapped up its campaign at the 2025 Asian Youth Games with four athletes, all medalists, winning one gold, one silver, and three bronze medals.
As of 6:40 p.m. on October 28, Vietnam had one gold, six silver, and seven bronze medals, ranking 19th overall on the medal table.
The 2025 Asian Youth Games, which gather young athletes from more than 40 countries and territories, will conclude on October 31.
