Vietnamese cueists to compete in Germany

Vietnam’s two leading billiards players will compete in the World Championship in Viersen, Germany on February 22-25.

Representing Vietnam are world No 10 Nguyen Quoc Nguyen and world No 16 Tran Quyet Chien.

The tournament will attract the participation of 16 strong billiard nations, such as the Republic of Korea, Turkey, the Netherlands, Greece, Denmark, Belgium and France.

“We are eager to take part in the tournament. We aren’t afraid of facing any rivals. We will try our best in each game,” said Nguyen.

“We have to be very good to reach the final rounds. Self-confidence is very important. We look forward to joining the party in Viersen,’’ Nguyen added.

Billiards player Chien was also confident, saying, “During Vietnam’s Lunar New Year we trained and co-ordinated with each other very well. We hope that we will have a good start this year”.

Vietnam is in Group C, alongside the Republic of Korea, Denmark and Greece. Vietnam will first meet the Republic of Korea with two strong players: world No 12 Choi Sung-won and world No 17 Kang Dong-koong.

The winners will walk away with a prize of US$9,800, while runners-up will receive US$7,400, and third and fourth place winners will be awarded a bonus of US$4,400.
