Vietnamese cueist makes history at 2026 Asian Carom Billiards Championship
VOV.VN -Vietnam’s Nguyen Duc Yen Sinh has marked a historic milestone for Vietnamese billiards after winning the women’s three-cushion carom title at the 2026 Asian Carom Billiards Championship in Ho Chi Minh City.
In the final on May 10, Yen Sinh faced Lee Yu Na of the Republic of Korea (RoK), an experienced cueist on the continental circuit. Roared on by home fans, the Vietnamese player started confidently with precise shot-making and strong control of the table. She built a commanding 15-5 lead after the first session.
Lee fought back in the second session with a six-point run to cut the deficit to 18-24. However, Yen Sinh held her nerve at key moments to maintain her rhythm. The Ho Chi Minh City cueist capitalized on successive opportunities before sealing a 30-19 victory after 35 innings, becoming the first Vietnamese player to claim a continental title in the event.
Yen Sinh had earlier produced an impressive run to the final. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Baek Ga In of the RoK after a tense back-and-forth battle. Despite trailing 21-24 in the second session, Yen Sinh recovered in time to secure a 30-25 win.
The Vietnamese cueist continued her strong form in the semifinals with a victory over defending champion Heo Chae Won of the RoK. Yen Sinh dominated from the outset, producing a 10-point run and racing to an 18-1 lead after the opening session before sealing a commanding 30-12 win in 22 innings.
Vietnam also secured another title in the one-cushion carom event, where Pham Canh Phuc outplayed Japan’s Mori Yoichirou 100-42 after 14 innings.
In the men’s U22 three-cushion carom event, Dinh Trong Van finished runner-up after losing 28-40 to defending champion Kim Do Hyun of the RoK.
