Vietnam women’s futsal team to play New Zealand friendlies in November
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s women’s futsal team are set to play two friendlies against New Zealand in Ho Chi Minh City in November as they prepare for the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games rescheduled for March 28 to April 8, 2027.
The matches are scheduled for November 12 and 14 at the Thai Son Nam Sports Hall in Ho Chi Minh City. The New Zealand team, known as the Futsal Ferns, are expected to arrive in Vietnam on November 7.
Vietnam will begin their training camp in Ho Chi Minh City from November 1 through December 12, focusing on physical conditioning, technical development and tactical preparations ahead of the continental competition.
New Zealand are expected to travel with a 14-player squad, including three players based overseas. Players competing domestically will gather in Auckland for two days before travelling to Vietnam, where they will join their overseas-based teammates.
The tour will mark the national team’s first full gathering since April, giving the squad time to train together and strengthen team cohesion before facing Vietnam.
Throughout 2026, the Futsal Ferns have held training camps in several regions to broaden their player pool and identify new talent. Their experience in 2025 included matches against leading opponents and participation in the World Cup, providing a foundation for further squad development and tactical experimentation.
The team’s tour of China in April also produced positive results, offering further encouragement ahead of their upcoming challenges.
For Vietnam, the two friendlies will give the coaching staff an opportunity to assess the team’s progress, review squad options and test tactical approaches in competitive match conditions. Facing an international team will also help players gain experience, improve coordination and adapt to the demands of international futsal.
According to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games have been rescheduled to March 28–April 8, 2027.
