Vietnam secures spot as AFC relaunches Asian Futsal Club Championship for 2027
VOV.VN - Vietnam will have a representative at the revived AFC Futsal Club Championship when the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) brings back the premier continental club competition in 2027.
According to the latest announcement from the AFC, the tournament will return in 2027 after an eight-year pause, with official regulations already released.
For its first edition since 2019, the 2027 tournament will cover eight domestic champion clubs from the nations whose national teams reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup. Vietnam is among the qualified nations.
Having met all secondary criteria set by the AFC alongside its national team’s quarter-final finish, Vietnam is guaranteed a slot in the 2027 showpiece. Thai Son Bac, who crowned themselves champions of the 2026 National Futsal Championship, are expected to represent the country.
First launched by the AFC in 2010, the AFC Futsal Club Championship featured Vietnamese participation starting in 2012. The annual competition was held continuously through 2019 before being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vietnamese clubs have historically punched above their weight in the tournament, led by Thai Son Nam, who stand as the nation’s most successful club on the continental stage with one runner-up finish and three third-place podiums.
The AFC will announce the exact dates and host venue for the 2027 AFC Futsal Club Championship at a later stage.
