Vietnam wins gold at Asian Athletics Championships 2023

VOV.VN - Four female Vietnamese athletes brought home a gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 16, the last day of the 25th Asian Athletics Championships 2023.

At first, Nguyen Thi Ngoc was only in 4th place among opponents of other countries. Hoang Thi Minh Hanh quickly jumped to third, making it easy for Nguyen Thi Huyen to rise to second and then first place.

Finally, Nguyen Thi Hang completed an impressive comeback, helping Vietnam get the first gold medal of the tournament after a total of 3’32’’36.

This result was 69% of seconds better than the record they set at the recent SEA Games 32 held in Cambodia in May.

The Sri Lanka team reached the finish line after a time of 3’33’’27, winning a silver medal.

The bronze medal went to the Indian team that finished the competition after a time of 3’33’’73.

This is the second time Vietnam has won the women’s 4x400m relay gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships. It last took gold at the 2017 tournament.

The Asian Athletics Championships 2023 was held in Bangkok, Thailand, from July 12 to 16 with the participation of athletes from more than 40 countries and territories.

Vietnam had sent 20 athletes to the tournament. Hopefuls like Nguyen Thi Oanh in the women’s 1,500m and 3,000m hurdles, or Nguyen Thi Huyen in the women’s 400m hurdles, did not reap success.

Along with the gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay, athlete Nguyen Thi Huong also grabbed a bronze medal in the women's triple jump.
