Vietnam wins bronze at Asian Athletics Championship 2023

VOV.VN - Vietnamese track-and-field athlete Nguyen Thi Huong has grabbed a bronze medal in the women's triple jump at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships which is getting underway in Thailand.

The event saw the 22-year-old girl surpass Thai athlete Parinya (13.58 metres), the current SEA Games 32 champion and Asian Games silver medalist in the women's triple jump, as well as Japanese athlete Takasima Maoroko (13.63 metres).

With a best jump of 13.68m, Huong finished third, earning her a bronze.

The gold medal went to Mariko Morimoto of Japan with a result of 14.06 metres, while the silver medalist was Rui Zeng of China, with a result of 14.01 metres.

At the recent SEA Games 32, the Vietnamese track-and-field athlete also erned a bronze medal with a 13.46m long jump.

Huong's historic bronze medal is the most remarkable achievement recorded by a local athlete in the women's triple jump at the Asian Athletics Championships.

Elsewhere, her teammate Huynh Thi My Tien also beat strong opponents in the women's 100m hurdles to enter the final round of the tournament.

Tien ranked sixth with a result of 13.46 seconds, marking her best individual achievement so far.

At SEA Games 32, the 24-year-old girl won a gold medal with a result of 13.50 seconds.

Vietnam has sent 16 athletes, including SEA Games champions to the tournament, which is scheduled to conclude on July 16.
