Vietnam U22 squad requested to have COVID-19 test before gathering

VOV.VN - The entire coaching staff and 48 players called up to the Vietnam U22 national men’s football team must be present in Hanoi on August 16 in order to undergo a COVID-19 test ahead of the squad’s gathering.

In line with this plan, Bach Mai Hospital has been designated as the location to carry out RT-PCR tests for the squad and coaches.

This comes ahead of a planned training camp for the national U22 side which will take place in Hanoi from August 18 to August 28 with the aim of preparing for the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games which the nation will host next year.

Included in the latest squad are an array of the country’s finest young talents, such as defender Van Toi, in addition to midfielders Van Xuan, Van Cong, and Trong Long.

In addition, big names who had previously been called up to the senior side including goalkeeper Van Toan, defender Viet Anh, and midfielder Hoang Anh have been named in the Vietnam U22 team.

The latest gathering of the youth side will occur after plans put in place by head coach Park Hang-seo and the Vietnam Football Federation to bring the senior national side together failed to materialise.

Previously, a list of 36 players had been announced to participate in the first national team gathering of the year with the aim of preparing for the squad’s games in qualification for the 2022 World Cup which had been due to get underway in October and November.

However this plan was cancelled due to both FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation announcing that all 2022 World Cup qualifiers will be postponed until 2021 in order to ensure the public’s safety during the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia.
