Vietnam U15 girls team to compete at CommBank Emerging Championships
VOV.VN - The Vietnam U15 girls national team will participate in the CommBank Emerging Championships 2026 in Australia from April 9 to 15, following an official invitation from Football Australia, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced.
The tournament, held at the Home of the Matildas training centre in Bundoora, is designed for U15 girls’ teams across the Asia–Pacific region. It aims to identify and nurture emerging young talents while providing international match experience. Vietnam’s participation is expected to offer valuable exposure for its players and add technical diversity to the competition.
Football Australia representatives noted that inviting international teams enhances the overall quality of the tournament and allows local players to face a wider range of playing styles.
Vietnamese women’s football has made significant progress in recent years. The senior national team qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time, reached the quarter-finals of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, and achieved multiple successes in regional competitions such as the SEA Games. Experts say competing in Australia will help Vietnam’s young players gain international experience and further strengthen youth training cooperation between the Vietnam Football Federation and Football Australia.
In addition to the women’s competition, this year’s tournament will also feature the U15 boys’ team of JFA Academy (Japan) competing in the CommBank Emerging Socceroos Championships.
The CommBank Emerging Championships 2026 is regarded as one of the key youth development tournaments in the Asia–Pacific region, promoting exchange and cooperation in youth football among participating countries. Vietnam’s participation is expected to offer valuable experience for the players as they continue their international development pathway.
