Vietnam U15 defeats host Azerbaijan 4-2 to reach World Cup classification final
VOV.VN - Vietnam U15 beat host nation Azerbaijan 4-2 on the evening of October 29 to advance to the final of the Tier C classification branch (ranks 81-84) at the FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival 2026.
Prior to the match, Vietnam had edged Cuba 2-1, while Azerbaijan secured a 5-0 victory over Mozambique. Facing the host side presented a stern test for the young Vietnamese team, but they delivered an effective performance to earn the win.
Vietnam got off to a good start as Xuan Vinh opened the scoring just 50 seconds into the contest. Two minutes later, Van Tai doubled the lead from a Xuan Vinh corner kick, turning in his second attempt after his initial shot was blocked.
In the 16th minute, Van Tai set up Xuan Vinh, who controlled the ball neatly before turning to fire a precise left-footed strike into the net, making it 3-0.
Holding a comfortable three-goal advantage, the Southeast Asian side intentionally slowed the tempo. Azerbaijan took advantage of the shift to press forward, scoring twice in quick succession to narrow the gap to 2-3 and dominating much of the remaining play.
However, as the hosts pushed for an equalizer late in the game, Van Tai finished off a swift counter-attack to restore a two-goal cushion and seal a 4-2 win.
With this result, Vietnam advances to the final match of the Tier C 81st-84th place bracket.
