VOV.VN - The Vietnam national U16 football team are scheduled to play Brunei at the Sriwedari Stadium in Indonesia for their first match of the ASEAN U16 Boys’ Championship on June 22.

Vietnam have been drawn in Group B alongside the likes of Myanmar, Brunei, and Cambodia.

Following their opener against Brunei, Vietnam will face off against Cambodia and Myanmar on June 25 and June 28, respectively.

Group C sees the participation of strong rivals in the form of Thailand, Australia, Malaysia, and Timor Leste. Meanwhile, hosts Indonesia will defend their title in Group A against Laos, the Philippines, and Singapore.

The top team from each group and the best second-place squad will then advance to the last four, with the final due to take place on July 4.

In 2022, Vietnam finished as runner-up after losing to Indonesia 1-0 in the final.

A total of 30 footballers under the guidance of head coach Tran Minh Chien are making their final preparations for the ASEAN U16 Boys’ Championship.

The ASEAN U16 Boys’ Championship is an annual international football competition contested by the national teams of the members of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), with the occasional invitation sent to other nations from the rest of Asia.

The competition was first held back in 2002 and resumed again in 2005. Vietnam previously won the championship title in 2006, 2010, and 2017.
