Vietnam to play three friendly matches ahead of 2027 Asian Cup
VOV.VN - The Vietnam national team will have two friendly matches against Chinese Taipei and Kyrgyzstan during the FIFA Days, taking place from November 9 to 17, and one match against Qatar on January 5 ahead of their 2027 Asian Cup campaign.
According to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF)’s plan, the senior team are set to begin their year-end training camp in preparation for the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia early next year.
Head coach Kim Sang-sik and his squad will convene on December 21 for this major continental tournament.
On January 1, 2027, the national team will travel to Qatar for a training camp. They are scheduled to have a friendly match against Qatar on January 5 before heading to Saudi Arabia on January 7 for the 2027 Asian Cup.
Selecting Qatar as the venue for training and the friendly match plays a significant role in the Vietnam team's preparation process.
This serves as an opportunity for coach Kim Sang-sik to assess his squad, refine tactics, and help the players adapt to playing conditions in West Asia ahead of the official tournament.
At the 2027 Asian Cup, Vietnam have been drawn into Group E and will play the UAE on January 10, the Republic of Korea on January 15, and Yemen on January 20. Despite facing a challenging group, the team aims to advance to the knockout stage.
On the continental stage, the presence of high-quality naturalised players and players of Vietnamese origin will further boost the team's performance and help achieve their set objectives. In addition to the three naturalized Brazilian players Nguyen Xuan Son, Do Hoang Hen, and Nguyen Tai Loc, Vietnam are expected to add striker Olaha Manh Duc to the lineup for the 2027 Asian Cup to further strengthen the team's attacking power.
Vietnam reached the Asian Cup quarter-finals in 2007 and 2019. At the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar, the team led by head coach Philippe Troussier were eliminated in the group stage after losing all three matches, including a 0-1 defeat to Indonesia.
